When children suffer do angels cry?
Is there grace when innocence must die?
When naked pureness comes to harm,
who has the right to bare arms?

she’s only 5, there’s pain in her eyes.
She sits in awe inside a court of law,
her tiny voice saturates the silence.
She solemnly speaks of invasive violence,
trust traded for lust.
He told her he loved her as he took off her clothes
but somehow she knows that’s not how love goes

Battered and bruised another child is abused,
his pleading refused, in vain he tries to understand.

Sarah and Dan built the house of their dreams
while they lived in a trailer and just beyond their means.
The house took its course, the force caused them to divorce.
Now Sarah dreams alone, renting the rooms of their home.

wondering why their dream had to die.
